WOMEN ENTERTAIN INSTITUTE CARD PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) Members of. the Motu-Motuhora Women’s Institute recently entertained their menfolk at a delightful flag five-hundred party in the institute room, Motu. Bowls of spring blossom were used effectively for decoration, and a huge log fire made the room very cosy. Mrs. A. E. Legge, president, welcomed the guests and announced a roll call “sing, say or pay” which was responded to by the majority present, resulting in a programme of short stories, recitations and songs.
Play was keen at the card tables and prizes were awarded to Mesdames W, Burburough, G. A. Moore, G. Begg, W. A. Wright and Mr. Wright. Mrs. Legge took the opportunity, on behalf of the institute members, to bid farewell to Mrs. G. A. Moore, who is leaving to reside at Hicks Bay. During her two years’ residence in Motu, Mrs. Moore has entered whole-heartedly into the work of the institute and taken, an active interest in the social life of the district. Mrs. Legge said that Mrs. Moore would be greatly missed, and as a token of the esteem in which she was held by the members, asked her to accept .a silver spoon embossed with the W.I. badge. Mrs. G. T. Hutchins, on behalf of her many friends, also presented Mrs. Moore with a tea wagon, expressing the regret they all felt at her departure and wishing her a prosperous and happy life in her new surroundings. Mrs. Moore, replied briefly. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Legge, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Hutchins, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Read, Mr. and Mrs. J. Adams, and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wright; Mesdames G. Begg, W. J. Reed and W. Burburough; Misses M. Fisher and U. Reed; Messrs. W. Lewis, A. Neilson, J. Begg, P. Moore and D. Fisher. St. Paul’s Guild Arrangements for the annual spring flower show were made by the members of St. Paul’s Guild at a meeting held at Mrs. H. L. Twistleton’s home, Marumoko. There was a good attendance, and keen interest was taken in the appointment of the stewards and stall-holders. Mrs. H. C. Boys, president of the guild, presented Mrs. G. A. Moore, who is leaving the district, with a dainty afternoon tea-cup and plate as a farewell gift from her fellow members, expressing the regret all felt in losing, such an active member. Amongst those present were Mesdames H. C. Boys, A. E. Legge, G. T. Hutchins, W. J. Reed, J. Adams, N. G. Nisbett, R. S. Fisher, A. W. Thompson, G. A. Moore; Misses B. and M. Fisher, J. Boys, and the secretary, Miss J. Twistleton. Mrs. S. Jeune, and Miss Helen Parker, visitors to Motu, were also present.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Frampton, Te Kuiti, paid a brief visit to Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wright during the week.
The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Motu district will be held in the Women’s Institute room on Tuesday evening. The meeting will be followed by a card party in aid of funds for the vicar’s car.
The rainfall recorded at Marumoko during July was 4.39 in and in August 4.99 in. There were 14 wet days in July and 17 in August.
