PARENTS’ LEAGUE
WAIROA COMMITTEE MEETS FOSTERING SCHOOL SPIRIT (Special to th» Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A meeting of the Committee of the Wairoa Parents’ League was held in the District High School this week, there being a good attendance of members. Considerable discussion centred around the question of making a drive for members and of fostering interest in the objects and activities of the league. It was decided that steps be taken to obtain new members by means of a house-to-house canvass following a circular, which it was decided should be forwarded to parents. A motion was carried that a small fee be charged members, the opinion of the meeting being that such a fee would help to stimulate interest. A . suggestion was made that the league should foster a social and dance for the old students of the school. Members fully discussed the proposal. Doubts were expressed thatby fostering such ■ a function the league might place itself in such a position that its identity as a league of parents might be jeopardised, but the . feeling of the meeting was that anything that could be done that would help to foster a school spirit among the ex-pupils would be all to the good. It was decided that such a function should be held during the week commencing from September 11, provided sufficient support could be obtained from old students who would assist the social committee in running the function. References were made to the success of the first function held by the league, a social and dance held during the month, and it was decided that more such functions should 'be held at an early date.
