The movement, organised by army volunteers, was made strictly in accordance to time-tables drawn up months ago, and all parties on arrival at reception areas received simple- rations to last 48 hours, alhllifqugh filleting ’officers and local authorities dn the reception areas had arranged in most cases for canteens and the provision Of drinks and hot meals.

■The .children were cheerful, .'enjoying the novelty of the experience, but many parents were obviously distressed at the parting.
