GERMAN ALLEGATIONS SILESIA RADIO STATION BERLIN WARLIKE CALLS CLOSING OF SCHOOLS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 2, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 1. A German agency message from Breslau alleges that armed Poles attacked the Gleiwitz, Silesia, radio station and succeeded in broadcasting an appeal in the German and Polish languages. Police overpowered the invaders in a few minutes. It is also alleged that Poles attacked • two other frontier points. Fighting is progressing. Residents of Gleiwitz reported hearing artillery fire in the distance at 5.30 a.m. Telephonic communication with Danzig was impossible. It was believed that the Poles had cut the lines across the frontier. The Berlin radio station warned East German communities , against the danger of bombing from Polish planes.
Warlike -orders' poured from the Berlin radio station while people were still asleep and the streets quiet and it also blared out martial music. German ships and foreigners in danger zones were given urgent warnings and the blockade of Gdynia was announced.
The German radio station announces that all schools in Germany are closing as from to-day.
Another announcement says that all air traffic throughout the Reich is prohibited, except machines belonging to the German armed forces. In Berlin notices were posted throughout the city mobilising the air raid precaution forces. Wardens knocked up sleepers warning them to be ready for air raids. A Berlin 'radio station warned all shipping in the Baltic that the entrance from Gdynia is closed and that every ship entering and leaving, risks the danger of being destroyed. The Berlin radio warns all foreigners that Polish territory is in the danger zone and their presence there is at their own peril owing to the likelihood of military action.
