BLENHEIM, this day. Poverty Bay were in form for their final game in the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament yesterday, when they played Auckland, but were unlucky, several good opportunities being lost. The team was as follows:—Misses Raihania and Wilson, Mrs. Ngarangione, Miss Single, Mrs. Pocock, Misses Rich, Whitehead, Ruru, Mesdnmcs Nicol, Edwards and Neilson. Poverty Bay put up their best performance, holding Auckland etasily in the first half. By taking flying shots instead of stopping first, the forwards lost Poverty Bay two easy goals, the first after 10 minutes’ play from the left wing and the other following a rush the full length of the field. Poverty Bay pressed their opponents repeatedly, but there was no score in the first half.
On changing over, Poverty Bay went straight to the Auckland circle, and the goalkeeper made a lucky •save from a hot shot by Mrs. Nicol. Poverty Bay were smashing hard at the Auckland goal for a considerable -period. With a long Ihit, the Auckland backs out the northerners on attack for two quick goals. Poverty Bay returned to the Auckland circle, and Mrs. Nicol missed an open goal by .inches. Auckland’s third score was a lucky one from a scramble just on time. All members of the Poverty Bay team played well.
