THE ROAD TO PEACE
RELIGION, NOT DIPLOMACY BISHOPS’ CAMPAIGN The church is strongly convinced that world peace will be obtained, not through diplomacy alone, but toy a return to religion, according to the Rt. Rev. George Harvard Cranswick, Bishop of Gippsland, interviewed in Wellington, this week. Accompanied by the Rt. Rev.' John .Steward Moyes, Bishcp of Armidale, he was on his way to Christchurch to conduct an evangelistic campaign there at the request of Bishop Campbell WestWatson.
The campaign, preparations for which had been in train for some months, was based, he said, on the church’s strong conviction that peace would come only through a return to the way of God. To-day the church was campaigning to help people to revert to ' spiritual rather than materialistic values. It was believed that materialistic aspirations must inevitably lead to war. The church had carried out similar campaigns in Australia. On their present tour they expected to preach in Timaru and Christchurch. Bishop Cranswick visited New Zealand in 1935, but Bishop Moyes had not previously been h t ere.
