AUGUST A BIG MONTH WORK VALUED AT £31,941 EQUAL TO REST OF YEAR ACTIVITY IN DWELLINGS A ibig spurt in building activity occurred in Gisborne last month, when 17 jobs at an estimated cost of £31,941 were sanctioned by the. Borough Council. The total value of the buildings was -almost equal to that for the whole of the previous sevenmonths. Two of the buildings for which permits were issued during August, the A.M.P. -building -and the High School additions, are estimated to cost between them -more than £25,000, but apart from that there are six dwellings, the greatest number sanctioned.in any month this year to date. 'During the first seven month? of the year, building activity in the town, judged by the number of permits issued by the Borough Council, was at a lower ebb than, during the corresponding period last year, but with the August figures taken into account there is now a 50 per cent increase on a value basis, while the number of permits issued also show a substantial increase. £64,085 In Eight Months For the first eight months of the year the total estimated cost of the buildings sanctioned is £64,085, compared with £40,803 for the corresponding period last year. The ‘figures for dwellings continue to show a steady improvement on -the progress -totals for last year, and at the end of August there was an increase cf more than 30 per cent in value but an increase of only a little more than 16 per cent in numbers.
