It is announced -that the Government of South Africa intends, next session to take power to appropriate —apart from the present mining taxation—the whole of the proceeds of the -sale of gold -above £7 10s an ounce. The Government -reaffirms the intention not to sever the link with sterling.

The London price of gold to-day is £7 19s (idi an ounce.

The announcement led to a heavy wave of selling on the Rand Stock Exchange.
