MAORIS CLAIM £90,000
LAND AND GOLD REVENUE 'DISPUTE SO YEARS OLD fPcr Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Claims natives from Thames, Coromandel and Thames Valley for land and l gold revenue dating back, to 1851, and involving a sum approaching £90,000, are being heard in the Native Land Court at Auckland before Judge MaeConmick. The Crown* is represented by Mr. J. Prenderville, of the Crown Law Office, Wellington, and Mr. V. R. Meredith, of Auckland. Mr. J. J. Sullivan is representing about 500 Maoris. Other Maoris are represented by Mr. 11. O. Cooney, Tauranga, and Mr. T. C. Thompson, Auckland. The hearing was begun some months ago and the last 'hearing was at Thames in March of this year. The hearing at Auckland has already occupied two days. At the last sitting of the court, Mr. Prenderville suggested that the Crown prepare a statement of all receipts and expenditure on all matters in the petition and submit this to the court. As > this would take some time, the conclusion of the hearing was adjourned. Legal argunent was heard yesterday and will be eoribrued to-day.
