Roll of Pioneers
For the past year Miss Eila Soholefleld, daughter of Dr. Guy Scholefield, Parliamentary Librarian, has been engaged in compiling a role of pioneers and their descendants for the Wellington provincial centennial committee. This roll contains the names of all she pioneers and their families who arrived at Port (Nicholson, Wanganui and Alhuriri (before the end of 1855 \ll these are checked by the information contained in the original papers of the New Zealand Company, in official immigration lists and in newspapers of the day. Of these there ir i wonderful collection in the General Assembly Library, where the work is being carried out. A list is also being compiled of persons who were born in the province 'before the end of 1865.
Miss Scholefield hopes to have this ■work completed before the start of the Centennial celebrations in. (November of this year. It is proposed that these n’ew records will foe housed in the Wakefield' Room of the new Wellington Public Library, where they twill be made available to the public.
