AMERICAN SELECTION

DAVIS CUP DEFENDERS OMISSION OF MAKO (Reed. Aug. 28, 2.10 b.m.) PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 27. The non-playing captain, Mr. Pate, has announced the United States has selected Riggs, Parker, Joe Hunt and Kremer to defend the Davis Cup on September 2. Mako has been omitted for the first time since 193 G. Commenting on the choice of the American team, H. Hopman, playermanager of the Australian team, in a statement to the Australian Associated Press, said: “I am surprised they did not pick Mako, but maybe they found out we like his style of play. Aipparently they intend to use Hunt and Kramer in the doubles, probably hoping that a pair of youngsters, with everything to gain and nothing to lose, have a better chance against us than veterans.”
