WAIROA’S QUEEN CARNIVAL

AMONG THE CANDIDATES

REPORTS ON ACTIVITIES (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A most enthusiastic committee meeting to further the campaign of the Watkaremoana candidate in the Waikaremoana queen carnival was held in Mrs. T. Foley’s residence last week, and Mrs. P. Delaney, No. 2 Camp, and Messrs. C. Tapper and C. Shield's were added to the committee. It was announced: that Mrs. A. Moloney, of the public works, Frasertown, had commenced a competition in support of Miss Foley. Various suggestions were received and a plan of campaign mapped out. \ County Candidate Another link in the chain of districts supporting Miss D. Delaney’s candidature was forged on Saturday night, when at the Tiniroto Bachelor’s Ball, a strong committee was set up to assist her campaign. Miss Delaney was introduced' to the crowd by the IVLC., Mr. Harry Campbell, as was also the organiser of the carnival, Mr. J. Woolf, who suggested that a committee should be set up to assist the county queen at Tiniroto. The following officers were elected: Chairmen, Messrs. L. Gibson and T. Fahey; secretary, Mrs. T. Fahey; treasurer, Mrs. Noble-Campbell; publicity agent, Mr. E. O’Neil; general committee (with power to add), Mesdames H. Campbell, Walter McGonagle, K. McGregor, Messrs. A. Baty, Hal'l, Don Hayden, Spence, V. Watt, H. Campbell, William McGonagle, Walter McGona-gle, A. Richardson, Noble-Campbell, K. McKenzie, George Spence and 1 K. McGregor. During the evening, Mr. Campbell introduced Miss Valerie Harker, the citizens’ candidate, who was also present. A Monte Carlo competition was won .by Mrs. J. Thornley and Mr. H. Patterson, Wairoa. A most successful party was held in Miss Delaney’s honour at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. Tong, Marumaru, 50 people being present from, all parts of the district. Games and competitions were played and a dainty supper was served by Mrs. Tong, assisted (by the ladies’ committee. Prizes were won by Mrs. Foot, and Mr. Noel Delaney. The evening was financially a great success. Advice has been received that iit has been decided to donate the proceeds from ithe bachelors’ balL at Ruakiturl to (the counity queen. Citizens’ Candidate A most successful jumble and produce sale was held 1 on Saturday in North Clyde, The committee was very pleased with the .takings, Which will considerably augment the citizens’ fund's. A birthday cake competition was won by Mrs. W. R. Petchell. The committee which conducted tire sale was:—Mesdames W. R. Petchell, J. Thomlev, H. L. Marker, D. Glengarry, M. B. Svenson, Miss B. Davys, Messrs. Potcheill and! Glengarry.
