TOLAGA BAY NEWS

FIVE-HUNDRED EVENING (Hei-old Coi-rcspondent.) The last of a series of five-hundred evenings was held in the Tolaga Bay Bowling Club’s pavilion last week, when there were 70 people present During the supper interval, the president, Mr. H. Bradley, thanked all those who had attended so regularly and also those who had assisted with the supper arrangements. Mr. Bradley presented Mr. P. Joyce with a pennant, as he was considered the player who had shewn most improvement during the season. The following were the competition and card winners:—Table Prize. — Mesdames Wilson and Gray and Messrs. Guthrie and Morris. Travelling Envelopes.—Messrs T. Bear and V. F. I-lui’lstone. Lady’s Points Prize. —Miss T. Nelson. Men’s Points Prize. - Mr. D. Sloan. Lucky Lady.—Mrs. Knox. Lucky Man.—Mr. A. Gilder. Special Competition, Smiles: Mrs. A. Thatcher and Idr. J. Pickett. Another special competition, Mrs. Haare. Combined Farewells There was a jolly crowd at the Catholic Hall on Friday evening, when Miss P. Hurlstone and Mr. W. J. Coleman were farewelled and were recipients of presentations. The evening was spent at competitions, dancing arid singing. The music was supplied by Mr. G. Holder. Mr. H. Martin, on behalf of all present, 'congratulated Mr. Coleman on his advancement, wished him every success, and made a presentation to him. Mr. H. Martin also made the presentation to Miss Hurlstone.

A delicious supper was served by Mrs. Gilbertson and Misses D. Rennie and S. Martin.

Among those present were Mrs. Gilbertson; Misses S. Martin, D. Rennie, O. Lincoln, A. Wright, D. Shaw, P. Hurlstone and M. Lockwood.

Mr. W. J. Coleman has left for Auckland. —Mesdames Ovenden and Menzies, Gisborne, were- recent visitors to Tolaga Bay.—Mrs. P. MitfordBurgess, Te Araroa, recently visited Tolaga Bay.—Miss V. Hollis, Gisboi’ne, is the guest of Mrs. E, G. Kelly.
