LIGHTNING KILLS EWES

LAMBS ESCAPE UNINJURED

Fork 'lightning killed four ewes, but in no way affected their eight lambs, when they were struck during a thunderstorm while grazing in an open paddock on the farm of Mr. R. R. Blade, Alhuroa, Auckland. One sneeo, which apparently received the full charge of the lightning as it ran to earth, had the wool practically .torn from its back and scattered! for about- 40ft. around. After striking the firsit ewe the lightning evidently travelled- along the ground, baring a path in the grass for 30vds. It then must have struck the three other ewes, which it - killed, but K left no marks on them. The l'ambs were huddled near their mothers’, bodies, ciuite uninjured, when Mr. Blade discovered his loss.
