BID TO AVERT bLASH
REASON AND JUSTICE (Reed. Aug. 26, 2 p.m.) ROME, Aug. 25. The semi-official .publicist, Signor V, Gayd : a, states, that Italy has* not exhausted her diplomatic moves to avert war. “Italy will continue to operate to a useful hour for a return to reason and justice," he says. All Italian Line ships are remaining in ports. The banks have banned .the cashing of sterling cheques, fearing that the British banks would not honour them in the event of war.
Two classes of Italian troops, totalling 500,000, have been mobilised, making the total under arms nearly 2,000,000.
