FINANCES ARE SOUND

POSITION REVIEWED BOWLING CENTRE REPORT TOURNAMENT ENTRIES i •‘The finances of the centre are in' a healthy state and, with the likelihood of increased memlbership in all clubs and further interest taken in centre competitions and tournaments, the prospects from a financial aspect are very satisfactory,” states the annual report of the Gisborne-East Coast Bov/ling Centre.

The report comments on the fine performance of the Kahutia club player, J. .Newton, who has skipped the winning rink in the Peace Shield competition on two occasions, played three for the winning rink twice, skipped the runners-up four times, and played three for the runners-up in two tournaments. Disappointment at the number of entries in the Peace Shield tournament is also the subject of some comment, while an appeal is made for more numerical support for the Burton Cup series.

‘‘ln tendering congratulations to the winners of the Burton Cup, the skip of which, I. Stephenson, has now secured wins in both the centre tournaments as well as champion of champion singles, pairs and full-rink ■competitions, the executive has pleasure in putting his long list of successes on record,” the report continues.

“The Yelverton Shield for pennant games was won by the Gisborne club. Inauguarted .four years ago to give all players an opportunity of participating in inter-club matches, and meeting members of other clubs, the pennant competition has proved increasingly popular. Owing to individual. club fixtures, it has, up to the present, been necessary to limit matches to four rounds, but in view of the interest in and pleasure derived from pennant games, the time appears to have arrived for the next ■executive to take into consideration the advisability of assuming full control of this competition and, if possible, extending the service.

Balfour and I. Stephenson were runners-up in the Dominion champion pairs. The Gisborne Club will be represented at' the San Francisco Exposition tournament toy I. Stephenson.

“It is with regret that, we have to report the death of Mr. W. S. Coleman, who has acted as hon. auditor for the past nine years,” continued the report. “To his relatives and to the relatives of all bowlers who have passed away during the season we extend our sincere symDathy." All who had helped the centre were thanked.
