LAMB DEMAND QUIET MUTTON SECTION FIRM (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board's report on the Smithfield market, covering the period ended August 24, states: — “Lamb. —Lightweight lambs are firm, but eights and second quality are slightly easier. The demand is quiet owing to hot weather. "•Mutton. —Wethers and ewes are firm, with fair trade. “Beef.—Frozen beef is firm, with a steady demand. Chilled beef is affected by hot weather. The demand and prices are lower. “Pork.—The New Zealand porker pig market is firm on short supplies. In the baconer pig section more are available and prices are slightly easier. “Veal.—Boneless bobby veal is weaker owing to increased supply.” The following quotations for frozen meat were those ruling on August 24, while those for chilled beef are averages for the week, the figures in parentheses being last week’s prices: Frozen Mutton New Zealand crossbred wethers and maiden ewes.—4Blb. and under, 5d (sd); 49 to 561 b., 4|d <4gd); 57 to 641 b., 4ld (4gd); 65 to 721 b., 4d (4d).
