STRATFORD’S SUCCESS
CHAMPIONSHIP SECURED (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. The iNew Zealand secondary schools’ hockey tournament was concluded this morning when Stratford beat Wairarapa and won the championship, having scored 12 points. They won six games. Auckland Grammar was runner-up with 11 points, Mount Vbert next with 10 points, and Wellington nine points. Stratford won the only previous tournament held two years ago.
Continuous rain fell early, yesterday morning and 1 left the ground in a heavy condition. Yesterday's results were:—Gisborne High School 6, Wanganui Technical College 2; Auckland Grammar School 2, Palmerston North Boys’ High School 1; Stratford! Technical High School 5, Wairarapa College 2; Mount Albert Grammar School 1, Wellington College 1. The final positions of the teams are: Stratford Technical High School, 12; Auckland Grammar School, 11; Mount Albert Grammar School, 10; Wellington College, 9; Wanganui Technical College, 4; Palmerston North Boys’ High School, 4; Wairarapa College, 4; Gisborne High School, 2.
WIN FOR GISBORNE
WANG ANUI DEFEATED (Special to the Herald.) WANGANUI, this day. The Gisborne High School secured its only win in the secondary schools’ hockey tournament in the final round yesterday, when it defeated Wanganui Technical College by six goals to two. The game was played on a dry ground until half-time, when rain descended. The Gisborne boys were performing well up to that time, when their play sufiered somewhat on the slippery turf, but they gradually improved as they became accustomed to the conditions.
