OBITUARY
MR, GEORGE McGIRR The death of 'Mr George McGirr, aged 82, occurred yesterday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. Tumwald, 11 Elm street. Mr. McGirr was born in Armagh, Ireland, and came to New Zealand at the age of 25. He made the voyage in the sailing ship Timaru, commanded by Captain George Fullerton, and the passage to Port Chalmers occupied 75 days. He settled in Dunedin for a time and at the age of 39 was married there to Miss Catherine Walker.
Twenty-seven, years ago Mr. McGirr came to Gisborne and almost immediately found employment with the Gitborne Borough Council, for whom he worked until! his retirement nine years ago. His wife died 18 years ago, and he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Turnwald, Gisborne. One brother survives, Mr. P. McGirr, Greymoutlh, and two sisters, Mrs. M. J. Burgess, Ashburton, and Mrs. J. N Tyson, Rotorua. Following a requiem mass, lo be held in St. Mary’s ' Church, Lowe street, at 0 a.m. to-morrow, the funeral will leave for the Taruheru cemetery.
