REP. HOCKEY PLAYERS

FAREWELL AT MURIWAI ■ (Herald Correspondent.) Prior to their departure as members o'f the Poverty Bay women’s hockey team which left yesterday for Blenheim to participate in the New Zealand hcckey championship tournament, I three residents of Muriwai, Miss Rata Wyllie, Mrs. Bertie Ngarangione and Mrs. Okeroa Raihania, were farewelled in typical Maori fashion at the Anzac Room on Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance of well wishers, the evening taking the form of a euchre tournament and social. Speaking on. behalf of the local hockey committee, Mr. George King made a presentation to each of the guests of the evening, and conveyed to them the best wishes of all for success on the trip. Mr. Tu Wyllie also voiced his appreciation of the players’ efforts, and congratulated them on attaining representative honours. Other speakers were Mrs. Ngakiha Kaimoana, Mr. Kahutia Te Hau and Mr. Paratene Te Hau. A letter wishing the ladies good luck and bon voyage was received from the chairman of the local Hinenui Hockey Cluto, Mr. Mangu Kemp, who, owing to illness, "was unable to attend the function. At the conclusion of the evening a very enjoyable supper, which had been arranged toy the ladies of the pa, was served.
