PLUNKET APPEAL

VIOLET DAY SALES p.TL' SOCIETY’S EFFORT POSIES AND CUT BLOOMS Shoppers in the town area will have the opportunity to-morrow of contributing to the funds of the Poverty Bay branch of the Plunket Society. This organisation will be conducting its annual appeal for funds, through the medium of a sale of posies, button-hole sprays and cut flowers, with a full range of early spring blooms.

The good work of the Plunket Society in the community hardly needs emphasising. Hundreds of parents of young children have had their anxieties removed, and the natural concern over infant complaints alleviated, by the members of the society's nursing service. The maintenance of this service, backed by a Dominion organisation which includes medical officers skilled in the- study of baby-welfare, and a number of hospitals for the treatment of aggravated cases, is one of the factors in New Zealand's fortunate position in regard to iniant mortality. To-morrow’s appeal will be conducted from a depot in Lowe street, adjacent to the Masonic Hotel entrance, and a willing staff of street sellers will be active throughout the day. Last year’s results were highly satisfactory to the society, and it is hoped that this year's will be even more so.
