INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA TREBLED DURING YEAR (Reed. Aug. 23, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 23. A preliminary survey of the progress of the Australian munitions programme made by the supply department shows that the output of small arms ammunition Is now three times that of a year ago. By December the production of anti-aircraft guns will be six times greater than that of two years ago. The output of shells and Vickers guns is also vastly greater. Employees ini the armament factories now number 5892 and l the weekly wages bill is £25,000. The general' acceleration of the programme is claimed l to have brought national self-containment in munition making within sight. Orders already have been undertaken for other Dominions.
