TENNIS TOURNEY PLANS

Interest has been aroused by (the announcement that the tennis professionals Budge, Vines, Tilden and Stoefen are to visit Australia and New Zealand. It is stated that they will reach Perth from South Africa on September 1 and stay six weeks, playing two-day matches in the Australian capitals. They wil.L spend a fortnight in New Zealand.
Sir Norman Brookes told the Australian Associated Press that the visit would nc.t affect the visit of American amateurs for which he is in negotiation. He added that the United States 'Lawn Tennis Association viewed the proposal favourably. The. personnel of the team would be decided after the national singles. He said the amateurs would compete m the Australian championships, adding chat the Australian tennis public in any event was large enough to support two tours.
Twenty years to the day after he and Patterson won the American doubles Sir Norman Brookes, at the rioston tournament saw the title again go to Australia. He considers that Australia’s chances of winning the Davis Cup are three to one on paper, but “lititle better than even money when it comes to a showdown, because there is always the risk of mishaps and the United States, has such a big field to draw from.”
