QUEEN CARNIVAL
MEETING AT TUAI OANDIDATE NOMINATED (Special to the lU-rald.) At an enthusiastic meeting of 40 residents of the Waikaremoana district held in Tuai, a motion was carried confirming the nomination of Miss Kathleen Foley, who was presented at the Carnival Ball last Friday as the Waikaremoana candidate in the queen carnival. Mr. K. Roy presided, and introduced the organiser, Mr. J. Woolf, who set out briefly the objects of the campaign.
After discussing plans for incorporating the whole of the district in a compact body to work for Miss Foley’s candidature, .'She following officers were elected:—Chairman, Mr. K. Roy; deputy, Mr. C. Wheeler; secretary, Mr. L. Quirk; treasurer, Mr. T. Keehan; publicity agent, Mr. K. Keehan; general committee, with power to add, Mesdames T. McGarry, T. Dawson, and T. Foley; Messrs. M. McQuilkan, C. Nis.son' J. Rangihau, R. Garrick, E. Sharp, T. Ramsey, J. Berghan, D. Thomas, E. Sheriton, J. Nicol, A. B. McCowan, and A. Beauchamp. The committee has plans for a number of functions, including a dance at which it is hoped to have some of the other candidates and visitors from Wairoa present. Their first official event will be a cookhouse dance at No. 1 Camp this week.
