REV. L. A. NORTH’S VISIT
Large congregations at both morning and evening services at the Bapti’st Church yesterday .were inspired by the preaching and singing of the Rev. Lawrence A. (North, secretary of the Baptist Union -of New Zealand. Mr. North took office last October, and this is his first visit to Gidborne. In the morning Mr. North visited the Sunday school at the town church and at Te Haipara, and later preached at th e morning service, his subject -being “The Church Which is His Body.’’ As a soloist IMr. North is renowned, and he gave a delightful rendering of the hymn, “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say.” During the afternoon a youth rally was held, a large number of young people attending and listening .with interest to a gripping message ficm the visitor on ''Secret Discipleshtp.” In the evening Mr. (North -preached -a powerful evangelistic address on “Life’s Greatest Discovery.” The solo, “There is a Name,” was greatly appreciated. Later Mr. North .met the church officers and discussed denominational matters with them. During the services of the day the choir, under the leadership -of Mr. R. Kemp, rendered good services, and a male quartet and Mr. Akc Anxell contributed items. Mr. North will spend the day in Gisborne and will leave to-morrow by plane for Auckland.
