MEMBER HONOURED
PATUTAHI GARDEN CIRCLE GIFTS FOR MISS R. ATKINS (Herald Correspondent.) The Patutahi Gardening Circle met earlier than usual this month in honour of one of the junior members, Miss R. Atkins, who is to be married this week to Mr. D. Peach, the circle wishing to include a “kitchen afternoon” with its business. Mrs. E. R Renner presided. The month’s gardening work was discussed and arrangements completed fo r the flower display and sales table to -be held pn August 31, to augment, the funds. Mrs. Humphreys has consented to judge the decorative work and also to describe some of the beautiful gardens she visited while touring England recently. Entry forms were distributed for the flower display to be held in Petties’ room on September 1. in aid of tile Women’s Rest room. All members were asked to do their 'host to help this cause.
In wishing Miss Atkins every happiness in her future life, Mrs. Renner presented her with a dainty bouquet on behalf of the members. The guest of honour, assisted by her mother, then proceeded to unwrap the many useful parcels. Miss Atkins thanked everyone for their kind wishes and gifts.
Three competitions were conducted, Mrs. G. Scragg, Mrs. J. H. Monteith, and Miss R- Atkins being the winners.
A dainty afternoon tea was dispersed by the- hostesses, Mesdnmes G. Scragg and J. Libline.
