“WE WILL WIN”
NAZI LEADER’S BOAST FAITH IN FUEHRER SUDETENLAND METHOD ROME WARNS WARSAW (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 21, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 20. Messages from Danzig quote the Nazi Leader Herr Foerster as stating to-day: “The hour now approaches,"
Herr Foerster was speaking to a uniformed gathering of police. “When the hour, comes, we will win,” he added. “The Fuehrer will solve the Danzig Corridor problem in similar version to that of Sudentenland.”
The.ltalian, Signor Gayda, writing in his semi-official journal, says: “Poland has only a few more days to reflect. Does she want to bang the door to a reasonable solution or be overwhelmed in an adventure which threatens her independence?
“Her real 1 friends should counsel her to turn from England and France and try at the eleventh hour directly to make contact with Germany. It is evident that the present tension cannot last longer than a few days.”
Other Italian newspapers predict that Herr Hitler, either at Tannenberg or at Nuremberg, will issue an ultimatum to Poland to come to ;erms or to fight.
Intense Interest resulted from a Reuter’s Agency report from Berlin that the Italian Ambassador, Signor Attolico, visited Herr Hitler at Berchtesgaden on Friday and delivered “an unfavourable reply” from Signor Musbolini to a vital question raised in the Hitler-Ciano talk. There was no indication as to what the question related, but it is reliably stated that Signor Mussolini strongly opposed war and is supporting tire Pope’s moves behind the scenes to induce a peaceful settlement', especially of the Danzig question.
The Italian press campaign has significantly toned down and is now adjuring “our old friends the Poles,” to negotiate with Germany without delay.
