ANNUAL CHURCH MATCH

ALL SAINTS’ VICTORY

GAME WITH ARMY

All Saints . . 9pts. Salvationists . . 0

Three unconverted tries gave All Saints a victory in the challenge Rugby match against Salvation Army on the High School ground on Saturday afternoon. This was the third annual fixture in which combined churches and l Salvation Army representatives have taken part. The first match, in 1937, was won by the Salvationists, and last season the game resulted in a draw. A shield donated toy Bandmaster Davis, now of Newton Corps, Auckland, following last year’s game, added interest to the contest. The Bunny Davis Challenge Shield will be presented to the winners at a banquet to toe held in the near future.

All Saints kept their goal line intact throughout the game on .Saturday and, in fact, they held the advantage territorially for much of the time. However, the Salvationists had their opponents hard pressed on several occasions and they were unfortunate not to open their scoring account. Those who took part in the match were:—

All Saints.—M. Proudfoot, L. Little, L. Slade, R. Renner, R. Lange, R. Scott, A. Yarrall, C. . Reardon, N. Thompson, P. Kent, D. B. Waugh, T. Kent, sub., R. Graham, B. Waugh, and R. Lindsay. Salvation Army.—R. Calcott, S. Bugden, A. Clark, H. Clark, Richards, H. Pearce, H. Rateliffe, W. Dunsmore, W. Brunton, D. Waugh, C. Waldock,

V. Geard, N. Christofferson, W. Sim and J. Brunton.

For the winners, tries were scored by L. Slade, T. Kent, sub., and L. Little.

The referee was Mr. T. J. Kay,
