COASTAL TRADE The Wainui sailed from Dunedin at 5 p.m. yesterday and is expected to work Oamaru and Timaru today, and Lyttelton to-morrow, thence Wellington. She is due at Gisborne on August 21. The Rata completed the discharge of her coal, timber and posts here yesterday and sailed at 3.30 a.m. for Westport. The Pukeko, which is due at Auckland to-night from Gisborne, loads at the northern port on Monday and Tuesday for Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier. The Kopara, from Portland, completes at Auckland to-day for Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier. The ship works here on Friday and will not call at Walkokopu this trip as re-, pairs are being effected to the wharf there. The vessel discharges at Napier on Saturday and returns to Auckland to undergo survey. The Pakura loads at Wellington on Friday and Saturday fo r Napier and Gisborne. She is due here next Tuesday.

The Margaret W. left Auckland at 5.35 p.m. yesterday for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne. The ship is due here to-morrow morning and should sail the same day for Auckland.

HOMEWARD LOADINGS Gisborne Roadstead

Karamea (Shaw, Savill; agents, Dalgety and Company), from Auckland, loads meat, butter and general cargo at Gisborne August 23-24. Leaves Wellington August 29 for London, Avonmoufch, Cardiff, Liverpool and Glasgow, via Cape Horn; due London October 4.

Maimoa (Shaw, Savill; agents, Common, Shelton and Company), from New Plymouth, loads meat and dairy produce at Gisborne September 13-14 for London and west coast ports of the United Kingdom. Leaves Auckland on September 21 for London, via Panama and Kingston. Tokomaru Bay Roadstead Tongarirb (New Zealand Shipping Company), is due at Tokomaru Bay about Tuesday next from Wellington, to load meat and general cargo for London and west coast ports of the United Kingdom. AWATEA WITHDRAWS Upon arrival at Wellington tomorrow morning from Sydney the Union Company's liner, Awatea will withdraw from service to undergo survey and overhaul. The Maunganui will relieve the Awatea and will leave Wellington next Saturday for Sydney.

FIRST : “C.2” STANDARD VESSEL The Donald McKay, the first of the cargo motor ships of the U.S. Maritime Commission’s “C.2” type, has sailed from Philadelphia for New York on the first stage of her maiden voyage in the Moore-McCormack Line’*; Scandinavian and Baltic service. She is one of a sextet build-, ing by the Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Chester (Pa.), and the Mormachawfi, the second of the new liners, was launched on May 13 last. The Mormaewren is the next vessel to be launched, and the programme calls for the launching of the Mormacdove on July (!. the Morrnaegull on August 2(i, and the Mormnclnrk on September IC. Each of these vessels has a deadweight tonnage of 8875 tons, and measures 435 ft. in overall length, 63ft. beam, and is designed for a speed of 16) to 17 knots with a cruising radius of 13,000 miles. The ships are being built to special specifications for the service to the Baltic and Scandinavia, and their features include strengthening of the hull, which will enable them to combat ice in the Baltic during the winter. Each will have about. 40,000 cub. ft. of refrigeration and 534,000 cub. ft. bale of cargo space, and will carry 12 passengers. They will operate on a 42-day turn-around lor each voyage, the itinerary including Oslo, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Gdynia, Stockholm, Helsingfors, Bergen and Stavanger. , AUSTRALIA-NEW ZEALAND Wanganelln, left Sydney August 12; due Auckland August 16; leaves Auckland August 18; due Sydney August 22.
