FERTILISER CHARGES | MR. HULTQUIST’S CLAIM j (Parliamentary Reporter.) \ WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Lands was urged in a question asked bv Mr. A. G. Hullquist (Lab., Bay o£ Plenty), id the House of Representatives to-day, to investigate the possibility of a flat freight—paid price for artificial manures, lime and other top dressing material owing to the rapid deterioration of iands. No area needed manure more than Matakaoa County, the freight on manure from Auckland to Hick’s Bay was 50s a ton, while petrol cost 2s lid to 3s a gallon at the latter port. Speaking during the financial debate, Mr. Huitquist stated if lid extra was charged in the cities, it would reduce petrol in his and similar districts by 4d a gallon..
