WAIROA’S ’DROME

PURCHASE OF LAND LOAN MAY BE RAISED POWER BOARD SUPPORT (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day.

It was decided at the monthly meeting of the Wairoa ElectricPower Board yesterday, to support the proposal of the Wairoa Harbour Board to raise a loan not exceeding £IO,OOO to purchase a site for an aerodrome in Wairoa without first taking a poll, of ratepayers. Mr. J. Corkill explained that the loan to be raised was for the purchase of land for VVairoa’s aerodrome. To take a poll of ratepayers in the district would cost anything from £IOO to £2OO, and th e .Harbour Board desired to eliminate this expense.

The engineer, Mr. C. J. Drewitt, pointed out that the construction of in aerodrome on the proposed site would necessitate the removal of a power line. The transferring of the line to Waihirere road would cost approximately £G4O. The chairman, Mr. C. V. Chamberlain, stated that the Harbour Board’s request was only a preliminary step to put itself in readiness for the work. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. H. M. B. de Lautour, it was decided to accede to the Harbour Board’s request.
