Rail-Cars
Sir, —'Now that Wairoa has a daily rail-oar service with Napier to connect with the express for Wellington, why should Gisborne not have a direct rail-car passenger service to Wellington and vice versa daily. It should be quite possible and profitable for the railway department to have a rail-car leaving Nuhaka each morning at say 9 am. direct for Wellington, and a car leaving Wellington at 9 a.m. direct for Gisborne. A railway service car leaving Gisborne at 7.15 a,m. to connect at Nuhaka could remain at Nuhaka during the day and connect with the rail-car from Wellington about 4 p.m., landing the passengers from Wellington in Gisborne at 5.30 p.m. That service should be a simple matter to arrange and would be of considerable value to Gisborne.
It will be fully two years before the line is opened to Gisborne. Why should Gisborne wait two years for this rail-oar service, seeing that to connect with the rail-car at Nuhaka is only 1J hours run in a service car or bus. May I suggest that the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce take this matter up with the Railway Department and see what can be done about it. • PROGRESS.
