BUTTER PRODUCTION

INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA

Despite the drought in the eastern States, Australia's production of butter for the year just ended seems certain to exceed considerably that for the previous year.

For the 11 months ended May 31, production was 3,636,827 cwt., compared with 3,461,394 cwt. fo- the same period of last year. Production in May was 311,322 cwt., an increase of almost 50 per cent, compared with May, 1938, a rise which shows the beneficial effect of the recent rain.

Exports for the 11 months ended May 31 were 1,844,049 cwt., compared with 1.681,163 cwt. for the same period of 1937-38.
