CATTLE LOSSES

SEVERE WINTER IN NORTH

Cattle generally in the North Auckland area are in low condition. Among the dairy stock there has not been any exceptional loss, but numbers of store cows have died during the past month or so. The shortage of feed and the particularly cold winter have been responsible. There was no demand for store stock in the autumn, and owing to congestion at the freezing works the cows could not ‘be sent in as boners. Dairy cows, especially on small 'holdings, are in very low condition and some have been found dead after getting' into creeks or swamps and not having the strength to get out again.
