HIGHER COUNTY COSTS

BURDEN FOR FARMERS Based on last year’s expenditure tiic increase of 4d a gallon in the price of petrol will raise the Southland County Council’s costs for its reading plant by .£ll2l. This information was given to a meeting of the, council by the county clerk, Mr. H. C. Gimblctt, who added that recently the council had purchased three new graders, and another .was on order, so costs would be higher this year. The consumption of the reading plant last year was 64,454 gallons. He estimated that contractors’ extra petrol costs would be £IOOO a year, and these would be added to prices. It was decided without discussion to submit the information to the Fanners’ Union and the Southland members of Parliament, emphasising, the increased costs to farmers.
