GODDARD EQUALS RECORD

Tom Goddard, of Gloucester, recently became the third bowler in English first-class cricket history to take 17 wickets in one day. The veteran’s clever trundling gave Gloucester vic--lory over Kent by an innings and 40 runs in a county championship match at Bristol. Goddard captured nine wickets for 38 in Kent’s first innings and followed it up in the second by, dismissing eight men for 68. The feat was first performed by C. Blythe, of Kent, in 1907, and Iledley Verity, of. Yorkshire, equalled it in 1933. The Gloucester man also became the first bowler to take 100 wickets this season. Before the stari of the game his total stood at 97.
