BOXING TITLE
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LOUIS NEVER THREATENED Boxing critics who witnessed the recent world-title championship fight between Joe Louis and Tony Galento, state that, in spite of Louis being knocked down in the third round, he was never in danger of defeat by Galento. “Ten minutes before the fight I decided I would not attempt to finish him off quickly,” 'stated Louis after the fight. “I thought my best plan would be to work around him for some rounds and size him up properly before I cut loose. But he said a lot of things I don’t like and butted me a couple of times. Then when he knocked me down in the third round, I determined to finish him as quickly as I could. There’s no sense in taking risks against a man who can hit like that.”
Galento is still at home nursing the wounds received in the bout. He has had 23 stitches in cuts over his eye and on the cheek and chin. Newspapers are still praising him for his courage, and the general feeling is that lie has earned a return bout.
