HOCKEY TOURNEY TEAM
THREE VACANCIES FILLED SATURDAY’S ADJUSTMENTS VISITORS FROM WAIROA Three vacancies in the learn to travel to the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament next week were filled by the Poverty Bay Hockey Association last night, when it was reported that Mrs. G. Tu-para, who had been selected as goalkeeper. Mrs. C. Tuhoe, full-back, and Mrs. J. Tangihau, right wing, were unable to travel to Blenheim.
These vacancies were filled by Mrs. Ngarangione (Hinenui), and Miss Raihania (Hinenui), backs, and Miss T. Whitehead (Kia Toa), right wing. Mrs. Watts, previously selected for Uie full-back position, was chosen to fill the position of goalkeeper. The team now finally selected is as follows:—Goal, Mrs. Watts (Kia Toa); backs, Mrs. Ngarangione (Hinenui). Misses Raihania (Hinenui), L. Single (Wairoa), R. Wyllie (Hinenui), E. Rich (Kia Toa); forwards, Misses T. Whitehead. (Kia Toa), D. Single (Kia Toa), R. Ruru (Te Karaka), Mrs. Nicol (Old Girls), Miss L. Edwards (Wairoa). Mrs. Ncilson (Kia Toa), Mrs. Pocock (Kia Toa), Miss M. Wilson (Awapuni); chaperon. Mrs. D. Timbitt; manager, Mr. PI. K. Swan. The team to play against Wairoa on Saturday for the Lady Carroll Shield, was announced as follows: Goal.—-Mrs. Walts. Full-backs.—Miss Wilson and Mrs. Ngarangione. Half-backs. —Mrs. Pocock, Misses Wyllie and Rich. Forwards.—Misses T. Whilehead, D. Single, Mrs, Nicol, Miss Ruru, and Mrs. Neilson.
Reserves. —Forwards, Miss Karepa backs, Mrs. Raihania.
A practice for the tournament team will be held at 3 p.m. to-morrow. The Poverty Bay v. Wairoa men's match on Saturday will be played on No. 2 ground at 1.45 p.m., and the women’s shield match on No. 1 ground at 3 p.m. All club matches were cancelled for next Saturday. The social commPtee reported that the visitors would be tendred a complimentary dinner at Le Grand Cafe, with a dance to follow in the same rooms.
•Mr. Grace, Auckland, was selected ns the Poverty Bay umpire for the New Zealand Shield match on September 23. A letter was received from the Napier sub-association expressing appreciation for hospitality extended to members of the Napier teams on their recent visit. The secretary was instructed to write «to the Waerenga-a-hika club expressing disapproval of the nonfulfilment of their playing obliga-
lions. An application from the Y.M.C.A. club for an alteration in the competition draw on account of several members going to Trentham was granted.
Those present at the meeting were: Mr. H. Le Bas, chairman, Mrs. R. Watts, Messrs. B. Crosby, W. P. Tamihana, G. McLaughlin, P. T. Tuhoe, G. Graham. H. K. Swan, R. J. Surgenor, G. Slade, D. Thomas, and G. File. Mr. Crosby was elected assistant secretary.
