FOURTEEN DAYS’ GAOL
INTOXICATED MOTORIST SECOND OFFENCE EUATORIA SENTENCE (Special to the Herald.) RUATORIA, this day. Charged in the Police Court this morning before Messrs. I. S. C. Dalgairns and W. H. O. Johnston, J.P.s, With having been found .intoxicated While in charge of a motor vehicle, a building contractor, George Richardson, aged GO, was sentenced 1 to 14 'days’ imprisonment, the Bench pointing out that he had previously been convicted and fined for a similar offence.
In evidence, Constable Bagge said that on Sunday he had found the defendant in ,a motor-lorry which was parked .angle-ways across the road. Richardson, who was very drunk and unable to stand up, was arrested.
Corroborative evidence was given by Constable Bradley, who said that the defendant was still intoxicated two hours later.
The constable said that the accused had been before the court on a similar charge on November 3 last and'‘‘bad been convicted and fined £ls and his-license cancelled for 12 months.
The defendant was sentenced to 14 day’s imprisonment on the intoitica;ion charge and on a second charge of driving while not the i older of a driver’s license he was -onvieted and discharged. In passing' sentence, the Bench pointed out that as Richardson lad been' 'convicted previously r.n a similar charge they had no altcurative but to send him to gaol.
