A Hong Kong message states that the captain or the British steamer Shinai, returning from Shanghai after loading salt at lisiuShsu, near Amoy, was halted by a Japanese armed trawler. The master. Captain G. A. Evans, radioed to Tf.M.S. Westcott. (which escorted the ,Shinai to safety. The port of Hsiushsu has been mined and closed. The Japanese are burning sampans.
A Tokio message states that further fighting is reported on the Mongolian borders.
A Chungking report says that the Chinese claim the Japanese are retreating on a front of 100 miles in Hupeh. A Shanghai message states that the Chinese dollar to-day reached a new low level, a shade under 3d.
