PROPOSALS IN EUROPE THOUSANDS IN DISTRESS (F.ltic. Tel. Copyright—United Pross Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 11, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 9. The Times says that the Belgian, M. Van Zeeland, has accepted the presidency of a co-ordinating foundation inter-governmental refugee committee. The foundation has a capital of ,C20U,000. It consists of 20 members, of whom seven -arc English and 10 American.
A message from Geneva states that a report being presented to the League Assembly in September states that at least 120,000 refugees left Germany in 1938 and 00,000 are now in Europe. .Most of them are not permitted to work and hre dependent on (private organisations for maintenance. The remainder found new homes, chiefly in the United States, Palestine, Australia, and South America. The possibilities of mass settlement are s'ill being considered.
