AUCKLAND CELEBRATIONS

An assurance that the Maoris would give all assistance in their power to make the centennial celebrations a success was given !by 'Sir Apirana Ngata, MJP. for Eastern Maori, when speaking at a dinner in Rotorua tendered to Mr. Tiweka Anaru, retiring registrar cf the Native Land Court. In particular, he hoped that celebrations cf a local nature would be supported to the fullest extent (by the Maori people. Sir Apirana said he was look lug forward with the greatest interest to the canoe races in 'Auckland at the end of January and (beginning of February next year for the Rehia Cup, presented by Lady Bledisloe. These races would be the great feature of the local celebrations at Auckland, and the six or seven canoes with their crews cf 68 to 80 men under the leadership cf Princess To Puea would provide a magnificent spectacle.
