AWAPUNI SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING SECRETARY RESIGNS The resignation of Mr. J. D. Martin from the post of hon. ■ secretary or the Awapuni School Committee was received at Monday evening’s meeting of the committee. Mr. Marlin explained that his work entailed absence from town at differed .imes and he felt that he could nbt devote the time necessary to carry out secretarial duties efficiently. Regret was expressed by the members of the committee at Mr. Martin’s resignation and several speakers remired to his conscientious work during the past three years. Mr. C. P. Simmonds consented to fill the vacancy for the time being. Those at the meeting were Messrs. E. File, chairman, J. D. Martin, C. P. Simmonds, F. Stenner, C. Pryce, and N. Gedye. The headmaster, Mr. C. Rigby, reported that the school had a roll number of 144. The attendance during the month had been affected by an epidemic of colds. The committee discussed a proposal to purchase a screen projector for the school and it was agreed to seek further information. It was reported that during the recent visit of Mr. G. A. Maddison, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, promises were received by the committee that the muchneeded improvements to the grounds would be carried out. A subsidy was granted to tire Turanganui Library for books supplied to the school and appreciation was expressed of the service and the quality Of the reading matter given to the children. , Accounts totalling £l7 10s were passed for payment.
