N.Z. COINS UNWANTED
An interesting sidelight on the disfavour with which New Zealand currency is viewed in the South Sen Islands was given by a Napier resident who has returned from a cruise of the Islands in the Maunganui. Countless times during the voyage, he said, tourists were greeted with the statement, “New Zealand money no good,” when they proffered New Zealand coins in payment for trinkets and goods. In Cone, a remote Fijian village, he saw a native refuse a Dominion shilling for a tip, but accept with alacrity a Fijian penny.
