Manawatu had the better of the game in the first spell, when only solid tackling prevented the score from mounting, the half-time score being Manawatu 5, North Otago 3. North Otago forwards played a fine game in the second spell, dominating the play and bustling their opponents into mistakes to secure victory. For the winners, Medley, Gillies, Depree and Low scored tries, Easton converting one. For Manawatu, Findlay and McKenzie scored tries, Finlay converting both.
