A total of 80,326 persons have enrolled in ;lhe central register set up at the Ministry of Labour to enable those with scientific, technical, professional or higher administrative qualifications to record their willingness to take part in. the national sen vice in an emergency. The register is intended as a pool from which such qualified experts can be drawn at need in wartime. Two of the largest groups of professional volunteers are those qualified in connection with architecture and public utilities and those trained as accountants. Over 6400 have volunteered for scientific research
