Davey, aged 29, collided vvitn a team-male early in the game. There was no indication that he had suffered any injury and he continued to 'play throughout the game. Early on Sunday morning a doctor was called in and Davey was removed to the hospital, where he died two hours later. Death was due to haemorrhage of the brain. Davey was employed in the line cons.ruction branch of the Post and Telegraph Department. He was a well-known and popular footballer and cricketer, 'having represented North Otago in both sports for several seasons.
