RUNFAIRLEY SHIELD
ANNUAL RUGBY MATCH
FIREMEN V. REFEREES
Tiie annual Rugby match between the Fire Brigade-Band and the Referees' Association for the Riml’nirley Shield will take place on the Oval at 1.15 p.m. next Saturday. Tiie Shield was first played for last season, when the referees were successful after a hard tussle played on a very greasy ground, which made ir. hard for some of the players to handle the ball cleanly. The BrigadeBand combination was weakened somewhat, as the Band were required to play the grand march in connection with the opening of the New Zealand ladies’ hockey championships on the same day, but this season they expect to 'be at full strength. The sole selector-coach of the Referees’ team, Mr. Norman Tasker, lias had great difficulty in completing his team, which is as follows:—Fullback. W. McKeague: three-quarters, W. J. Wilkie. V. Norman, and F. N. Sharpe; live-eighths. Galiolinsey and .! Lockwood - half. E. Felton: forwards, front row, I. N. Charles and W. !!.. James, lock, R. Julian, side row. 11. R. Hoil'ord and L. Hayes, back row, J. F. Green and J. Kay. Emergencies: Backs, A. Ingram, T. Leslie, and K. R. Waite; forwards, H. Hunter L. R. Sticlibury, and J. Forster.
The players chosen will allend at the trainki.g rooms at the Y.M.C.A. at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday .for the final lecture from the coach and for the appointment of the captain.
