COMPETITION LEADERS

POSITIONS UNCHANGED CONTESTS IN 3 GRADES Saturday’s matches in the Poverty Bay Basketball Association's championship series saw Tuis and St. Mary’s A score further successes, maintaining their joint leadership or the A grade. Similarly, in the B grade St. Mary’s 81, who head the competition, added a further victory to their laurels, while in the C grade St. Mary’s Cl scored their eleventh victory and High School their ten.h. The weather conditions were keen and the strong wind tested the skill of the goalies. The afternoon’s programme was a ’ full one with 15 matches.

Next Saturday the Opotiki representative side will visit Gisborne to play a. return match against the Poverty Bay B grade representatives, who were defeated by. the Bay of Plenty team in Opotiki on July 1 by 10 goals to eight. Two other visiting teams, an Opotiki club team and a Napier club team, will be on the Victoria Domain court's as well, and a series of special matches will be arranged. However, the association hopes to continue the A and C grade championship series if it is found convenient to do so. Several of last Saturday's competition matches were decided by small margins and one of the keenest games of the day was a contest in itlhe B grade between Cash Stores and High School B.
