FASTER TENNIS BALLS

AUSTRALIANS WORK-OUT

Cl. BAN’S LIMBERING IT

DAVIS CUP ZONE FINAL

(flito. Vet. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed.-August 7, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, August G.

At Seabright to-day, the Australian Davis Cup players, A. K. Quist and J. 11. Crawford practised with new and faster balls submitted by the United States Lawn Tennis Association and pronounced them an improvement over the "furry creatures” which they have been using for a form ight.

The American players threatened to go on strike unless the halls were changed, but the association first sought the Australian's opinion.

The work-out was the Australians’ first since Wednesday. Both had a tendency to hit out due to the change of balls. Quist is still concentrating on his baseline game and drop-shots. He hit accurately in the first set, but tired thereafter.

He commented: "I'm getting into shape, but I need more competition. I have not had a single five-set match this year.'’

The Cubans worked out this morning. Quist thought Morales, Cuba’s No. 1 player, looked pretty good. He has a hard service.

A smile went round when Quist asked Morales to interpret a four word telegram from Havana. It read: Morales, Nordarse, Augero. Concill. Morales explained it was the Cuban players' names. Quist blushed.
